Manikyakallu

Manikyakkallu is a Malayalam movie released on 02 June,2011. The movie is directed by M.Mohanan and starring Prithviraj and Samvrutha Sunil in the lead roles. The film is about a young teacher who arrives at a village school, who tries to make a definite change in student attitude. The movie is loosely based on the life story of the students and teachers of the Govt Brennan School, Thalassery.

The story happens in a government school that had a glorious past but is now on the verge of being shut down as there are fewer than 60 students enrolled there. The teachers have no hope about making a difference to the situation and are busy with their personal activities. Into this situation comes a young teacher Vinayachandran , who makes a difference. Being a new teacher to the institution ,it is unknown to all that he is the son of school's former headmaster, who became a dishonor after all the students of the school failed in the SSLC exams and died heartbroken.

Things seem headed for a change ,with the arrival of Vinay Chandran(Prithviraj), a young teacher who has sought his first appointment at this decrepit school, for reasons of his own. He takes charge of the tenth grade;a small group of 12 students consisting of seven boys and 5 girls. His job is not only to inspire the students to learn, but also to inspire his fellow teachers to teach.

Mohanan said that he had a dream of becoming a teacher when he was young, but later he realised that he won't make a good teacher. "Article like 'Chokkupodi' and 'Madhurachollu' which tell the experience of teachers have also influenced me", he said.

Talking about the inspiration for the film, he said that it was spurred by a personal experience.He added that he was particular about doing this film though he had to wait for an year. "I knew that my film carried a good message and I was ready to wait to put that message across the audience,"he said.

Verdict: This film is a very good example of student-teacher relation. In short, its a feel good movie where people don't have shades of grey. You can give it a try to relax your stressed out mind or else give it a miss!!!!
